“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.” Genesis 1:1-2
The peace and light of God are so powerful. They expel the deepest darkness and the most extreme chaos of the enemy!
The very first time we’re introduced to the peace and light of God is in Genesis 1. In regards to peace, it is written that the Spirit of God moved over the face of the waters, which were covered in deep darkness. One of the Hebraic definitions of the word moved in this passage means to soften and to relax. There was a peace in which the Holy Spirit hovered over the waters–His peace conquered over the turmoil beneath Him.
In the very next verse, it says that God spoke light into the darkness (v.3). With one word, God illuminated what had been previously wrapped in obscurity. Whatever areas in our lives where chaos and darkness reside, the glory of God is strong to rule over it.
Scripture tells us that Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6) and the light of the world (John 8:12). He is the perfect model of God’s peace and light and exhibits His power and authority in Matthew 14:22-33.
This passage is the account of Jesus walking on the waters during the darkest part of the morning. The scriptures say that the disciples saw him and were afraid because he looked like a ghost (v.26). The glory of Jesus was so bright that it showed through the darkness of the night!
When Peter, who stepped out of the boat to walk towards Jesus, began to sink due to fear, Jesus reached out and saved him, asking, “Why did you doubt me?”.
We all go through tumultuous seasons where it seems like the storms around are way too big and too strong for us. We all experience moments where it feels like we’re in complete darkness and can’t see a clear path. Do we believe that God is able and well equipped to save us? Or, do we doubt Him because of the lack of peace and light that we feel and see?
I pray that you would be reminded that in the same way the Spirit of the Lord moved upon the waters, and in the same way Jesus walked on top of the waves, you would know that God is completely willing and able to conquer over the issues in your life.
He is all-powerful, sovereign, and will speak peace to your chaos and light to your darkness. Seek Him and watch as He moves on your behalf!
Amen & amen!
